Exhibitions

Since I left Bath Spa University in 2016 I have only had a few exhibitions, with my MA Show Lost and Found relocated and re-imagined for Dean Clough Gallery in Halifax and more recently Making Histories at Leamington Spa Art Gallery and Museum being the most significant. And I’m very grateful for the invitations to show in those wonderful spaces.

However, it is perhaps worth emphasising that the nature of my work, exploring the links between clay, people and place, is often linked to businesses in the areas where I am conducting research – such as with Bruichladdich Distillery on the Isle of Islay, The Plough pub on Deansway in Worcester and now with Triangle Bakehouse in Ripponden – and I am keen to find places for my work, for use or sale, within these contexts. These projects were / are very different, with different outcomes, but saw / see interaction with the public in terms of challenge and, perhaps appreciation on different levels – and maybe in different ways than with galleries focused on drawing in people who are already ceramic enthusiasts. This reflects a commitment of mine to try and find ways of working beyond the white cube space of a gallery, or smaller gallery spaces and shops selling artisan crafts, often found in towns with a regular flow of visitors. I suppose it is an interest in placing my functional ceramics in places where you might perhaps not immediately expect to find them that motivates me to find unusual places to sell…. ?
