These two forms are becoming an important new feature of my work, to be shown and sold at the stalls and events I will be taking part in this Autumn (news to follow). The cider bowls are inspired by bolée à cidre from Brittany, but I have added a key element, the concave band beneath the rim, created with a small rib toward the end of the throwing process on the wheel. This not only makes the bowl easier to hold and more ergonomic, but also allows the glaze to break in a way that emphasises the form. The cider beakers, which are smaller than my original beer beakers (see Pints and Local on this website), are facetted, but specifically with an oblique series of cuts rather than the more ubiquitous vertical facets. The facets improve the grip on these beakers and also allows the glaze to break on the ridges – which gives a flow and life to the form…..
